PRIMARY MEDICAL CARE CERTIFICATE ASSESSMENT IN FAMILY MEDICINE

The Board of Examination and Assessment is pleased to announce the following information on the Primary Medical Care Certificate Assessment (PMCCA) in Family Medicine.

 
(1) REQUIREMENT AND ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must satisfy all of the following criteria:-
(a) be members of the Hong Kong College of Family Physicians (HKCFP) who are registered with the Hong Kong Medical Council.
(b) have 3-year full time experience in primary medical care practice..
(2) DATES
(a) Deadline for Application: January 18, 2002.
(b)
PART 1: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) paper will be held on February 9, 2002 (Saturday), 15:00 - 18:00.
(c)
PART 2: consists of The Practice Assessment and The Consultation Skills Assessment, and will be held from May, 2002 onwards.
(3) FORMAT AND CONTENTS
The assessment will consist of the following two parts:-
(a)
PART 1: Multiple Choice Questions
Only candidates who pass Part 1 may apply to sit for Part 2 of the Assessment.
(b)
PART 2: consists of two segments, Practice Assessment and Consultation Skills Assessment.
Details of the format and contents can be found in "Guidelines on Primary Medical Care Certificate Assessment", which are available from the HKCFP Secretariat.
(4) CRITERIA FOR A PASS IN THE PRIMARY MEDICAL CARE CERTIFICATE ASSESSMENT
A candidate must score a minimum of 55% in the MCQ paper before being eligible to apply to sit for the Part 2 of the assessment.
A candidate must score a minimum of 55% in both segments in the Part 2 assessment to pass the whole Primary Medical Care Certificate Assessment. The respective score of Part 1 and/or a segment of Part 2 of the PMCCA can be retained for a maximum of three years if a score of >= 55% is achieved in that segment. A candidate must pass all the PMCCA segments within three years from the year of the first attempt in order to be certified pass in the PMCCA. Candidates who fail to pass all the segments within three years will be required to sit both Parts of the PMCCA again.
(5) ASSESSMENT FEES
The assessment fee for Part 1 is $5,000.
The discounted assessment fee for Part 2 is $3,000.*
All fees must be paid in full on application. All fees paid are neither refundable nor transferable. A cheque of the appropriate fees made payable to "The Hong Kong College of Family Physicians" ” should be enclosed with the application. Applications will not be processed unless the appropriate fees have been paid.
(6) APPLICATION FORMS
Application forms are available from the College Secretariat at Room 701, 7/F, HKAM Jockey Club Building, 99 Wong Chuk Hang Road, Aberdeen, Hong Kong. The deadline for application is January 18, 2002.
(7) AWARD OF PRIMARY MEDICAL CARE CERTIFICATE

The primary medical care certificate (PMCC) will be awarded to candidate who has passed the PMCCA and whose practice(s) have been assessed. The PMCC is valid for ONE calendar year, which ends on 30 June. The PMCC will be renewable on 1 July every year if the certificate holder fulfills all the HKCFP QA&A requirements and is awarded the current HKCFP Certificate of Quality Assurance (its equivalent).

If a candidate works in more than one clinic, separate practice assessment is required for each of the clinic locations in order to obtain separate certificates for these clinics. The candidate is required to work personally in each clinic location for not less than 20 hours per week.

The PMCC will bear the address of the assessed clinic. The certificate holder must apply for a new certificate when the practice location is changed. Practice assessment will be required before the new certificate is issued.

*If additional assessment is required for more than one clinic site, a fee of HK$5,000 will be added for each additional site.
