Salmon patches occur in 60% to 70% of newborns. Lesions are usually located at the midline areas, such as the nape, forehead and glabella of the head and neck regions. Lesions usually fade during the first year of life though some will persist. This condition is not associated with other congenital abnormalities. Sometimes it will darken with crying, holding of breath and physical exertion. Further investigation and treatment are not required. Parents should be reassured of the benign nature of this condition. (The vascular lesion on the tip of nose of this baby is cavernous haemangioma and is only coincidental). |
