Diploma in Family Medicine (HKCFP)
1st Announcement



The Board is pleased to announce that a Diploma in Family Medicine (DFM) will be organized by The Hong Kong College of Family Physicians in June 2003.

The proposed Course of DFM will consist of FIVE modules. Modules I & II will be delivered by Distance Learning. Modules III-V consist of lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops and clinical attachments. The whole Course requires ONE year of part-time studies.

Details of the Course as follows:

1.

Objectives:

 

(a)

To provide a knowledgeable, pragmatic and structured teaching in Family Medicine for General Practitioners, especially for those who have not undergone vocational training and for Medical Trainees who intend to take up Family Medicine as their career.

  (b)

To improve standards and quality of Primary Care.

 

2.

Contents:

  (a)

Module I Introduction to General Practice

  (b)

Module II Clinical General Practice

  (c)

Module III Essentials of Family Medicine

  (d)

Module IV Clinical Updates

  (e)

Module V Practical Family Medicine

 

3.

Admission Requirements

  (a)

Registered Medical Practitioner in HKSAR

  (b)

Graduated from medical school for at least TWO years

 

4.

Teaching Staff

 

A panel of experienced academic medical professionals in Family Medicine, hospital specialists and experienced Fellows or Trainers of HKCFP will be invited to teach in the programme. The Department of General Practice, Monash University will be involved in the Distance Learning Modules.

Course Fees

 

HK$25,000 per student (non-transferable and non-refundable).

 

7.

Awards/Credits

 

A Diploma in Family Medicine issued by HKCFP will be awarded to candidates who have satisfied all the requirements and have passed all prescribed assessments of the Course.

Candidates who satisfactorily completed the two Distance Learning Modules (Module I & II) will be awarded the prescribed Credit Points which may allow them to proceed further with their studies leading to the Master of Family Medicine awards by Monash University.

The Course Modules with structured lectures and seminars may be accredited as equivalents of the required counterparts in Higher Training in Family Medicine of HKCFP.

50 CME and 10 CPD credit points will also be awarded to candidates who satisfactorily completed the Course as per requirements of QA & A Committee of HKCFP.

An information seminar on the Course will be held in middle of March 2003. Members who are interested to attend the seminar or join the Course can now pre-register with the College secretary Ms Jessica Cheng at 2528 6618. Pre-registration will facilitate communication with the organizer. Priority will also be given to those who are eligible and pre-registered with the College in case the maximum capacity is exceeded.
