The Hong Kong Practitioner VOLUME 27 / November 2005

The University of Hong Kong
Family Practice Attachment for Medical Students

The Family Medicine Unit of the University of Hong Kong is actively recruiting general practice teachers who are prepared to take students into their practices for teaching purposes. During the family medicine clerkship each student is required to spend some time attached to a general practitioner in the community. These attachments are on a one-to-one basis, and are scheduled at regular intervals throughout the academic year. Each student will be attached to the G.P. teacher for 3 half-day sessions during a 9 week period.

Most general practitioners find that teaching in their practices is a rewarding experience, and the satisfaction gained often more than compensates for the minor disruption to the practice. Those who volunteer to teach will be given an honorary academic appointment at the University of Hong Kong. Appropriate accreditation will be given by the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Committee of the H.K.C.F.P. towards the award of the Certificate of Quality Assurance. Our honorary staff are entitled to use our University facilities including the library, computer access to the Internet and the sports club.

Fellows and members of the Hong Kong College of Family Physicians may wish to contribute to general practice education in this way, and enquiries from other doctors would also be welcome.

Please complete and return the reply-slip below, indicating each period in which you are prepared to take a student.

I would be pleased to answer any queries you may have regarding this attachment programme. No previous experience is necessary _ interest and motivation to teach and pass on your expertise are much more important.
